SUGAR IN THE US DIET: EFFECTS

People have been warned about the ill effects of sugar for decades. The FDA recommends that people should consume no more than 4 tablespoons of sugar per day yet the average American consumes up to 7-8 tablespoons. All the sugary foods that are being consumed mostly in lew of high fat foods have been proven to lead to an array of health issues. Below we discuss some of the most common consequences from eating sugar based on the latest research.

Insatiable Hunger
Leptin is a hormone that tells your body when it is is full, over consumption of sugar such as high fructose corn syrup can lead to Leptin resistance. This can cause major issues when it comes to weight control.

Insulin Resistance
When eating high sugar meals, it can increase the demand for your body to produce more insulin. But if insulin levels stay high, your body will become less sensitive to it, leaving more glucose in the body. This can lead to an array of health issues such as fatigue, high blood pressure, weight gain and eventually diabetes.

Nutritional Deficiency
Sugar may add calories to your diet but the are empty calories meaning they have no nutritional value. By replacing needed nutrients with sugar supplements such as replacing milk and juice with soft drinks in children can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, brittle bones and high rates of obesity.

Heart Disease
Heart disease is the number one killer for Americans. Eating too much sugar can increase your risk for this horrible disease along with lack of exercise and smoking.
